House Rules

  • Kludging rules from other systems is not working and I won’t be attempting it in the future. Although, playing those types of story games DOES help impart a better grasp on CHARACTERS which are not defined by rules.
  • If a Player wants to do something story-wise, ask at the table. If a Player wants their character to do or be able to do something, bring it up. If Mr X doesn’t think going in the sewers is the best thing, BRING IT UP. List your reasons in front of the group so that all the Players can discuss it. Players MUST BE CLEAR whether they are in character or not to avoid any mistakes.
  • If Players want to do something fun and interesting during combat, say so. If it can be done within the rules we can all figure it out including possible consequences. My goal is to say “YES” as much as possible BUT make sure it is either within the rules or else a reasonable consequence is imposed.
  • D20 by design is a cooperative game with the players working together to overcome obstacles imposed by the DM. Unless both the ATTACKER and DEFENDER agree up front, no social skill will be used by a player against another player. Intent, desired result and potential consequences must be established before any rolls. Use of spells or abilities against a fellow PC in a negative or detrimental fashion is strongly discouraged.
  • Players can change their character without penalty at the beginning of any game for any reason. In my game, Players own the XP, not the character. You will not loose XP for bringing in a new character… although your previous character’s wealth will NOT be passed on to ANY character and is effectively gone. Also, the new character will have the same level of wealth as your old one.
  • If your character is dead and you want him or her raised, then you obtain NEGATIVE LEVELS per the Pathfinder Core Rules (page 562).
  • Items, races, classes, spells and other abilities in the Core Rulebook are available without comment or question. If ANY thing is taken from another Paizo book, players must be upfront with it. In general, permission will be granted but that permission can be revoked if the item/feat/spell/whatever appears over powered. The revocation will not be done carelessly and the player will have every opportunity to make their case.
  • Hero Points are allowed but modified.
